Throughout most of my life, I've enjoyed drawing and doodling in an analogue framework (a.k.a. the old pen & paper), and it was only in late 2019 that i really started exploring digital means, thanks to creative tools like Procreate and the Apple Pencil!
warped
Playing with the balanced asymmetry of curves, the smooth, watercolor-like opacity in these abstract figures. Carefully improvised.

"the office crowd, running like rats in the subway and the streets between 7.30-8.30 to get to their desks on time."

"Rat Race is a term used to describe a frustrating, hard-to-break financial lifestyle. It is a lifestyle that is lived by countless people, oblivious to the very nature of it, to a degree that even when called upon, vehemently deny it.

To summarize the Rat Race, It involves subjecting one's self to a time-consuming job, saddling one's self with heavy mortgages/rents, bills, children, and liabilities, forcing the individual to continue busting his or her ass at that same job. The illusion that working at the same job will be better bars off alternatives.

It is also a misconception that getting more money will solve financial distress, but those who subject themselves most voluntarily to the race, just spend more and more, digging themselves the same hole. "I'm not interested in money." They will say. If they aren't, then why are they thanklessly toiling their lives away and constantly bitching about their financial scarcity? [...] "

Even though the concept for both of the following illustrations actually came to me a couple years back in 2018/19 and were drafted upon squared school paper, thanks to these new tools I've been able to improve my original vision for them and make recolourings, textures and tweaks beyond my wildest dreams; that could not be achieved with the non-reversing nature of paper. As conceited as it may sound, I consider this series my most recent and meaningful work in content and execution.

the draft
At the time of writing, I have been using Procreate on my Ipad for almost three years it was gifted to me in december of 2019,an although admittedly my artistic production has decreased significantly since the pandemic, I still find it's a useful tool to draft new projects and especially I have slowly began to discover the different brush textures and techniques available and also to go beyond traditional line drawn illustrations like the above (with no intention of replacement, of course) with more abstract imaging, exploring colors and shapes and not as many icons.
I have been pleasantly suprised with the results, and it has provoked a deeper interest in abtract paintings like the ones that are predominant in the global art scene, as well as one to start creating them my own style, handmade with real paint and brushes and hands-on experimenting!
Even though upon first inspection the mouse and his fleeting triumph in life may appear as the main focus of the drawing, it is really the snake that holds various layers of meaning: much like the exacerbated capitalist system we live in itself, the snake i portrayed is cruel, merciless and hungry, designed by nature to sustain itself by unsuspecting pawns, and 'stuck' in place by what makes the world go round, money and those who most posses it.
With more than 40 layers of elements, colors and shadows, this gigantic tank was and is one of the most meticulously drawn works I've done.
However, my reasoning behind these massively commercialized objects forming a weapon is a simple one, borrowed from Romans centuries ago: Panem et Circenses (bread and circuses), the opium of the people. When provided with tasty food and flashy entertainment and vices, the masses have shown time and again that they will remain docile and distracted - not only from the bigger picture of opression in the system, but also now more than ever - from the obscure and cruel ways that these goods are made... "far away" enough to care in underdeveloped nations.

In a similar line, the following drawing of our planet in flames
(i know, i'm sooo optimistic) with a dog biting it's own tail is meant to reflect not canine, but our own human nature, of keeping up habits that are detrimental for us, such as destroying the environment we live in for the sake of the aforementioned commodities like fast fashion, junk food or our wish for unlimited economic growth; something- dare i say- will come back to bite us in the ass (pun intended).
